Why this course?

Built for the Built Environment

The UK construction industry is responsible for delivering the homes, hospitals, schools, transport networks, and commercial buildings that the country depends on. It contributes over £117 billion to the UK economy each year and faces a well-documented shortage of qualified professionals — particularly at the technical and supervisory levels where HND graduates operate. This programme positions you squarely where demand is highest.

The HND in Construction Management goes beyond blueprints and brickwork. You will develop a comprehensive understanding of project lifecycle management, cost control, structural principles, and the legal frameworks governing construction in England. You will learn to read and produce technical drawings, manage subcontractor relationships, monitor quality, and lead site operations with confidence and precision.

Completing the HND also creates a well-trodden path to degree-level qualifications. Graduates can progress directly to a BSc (Hons) Construction Management Level 6 Top-Up, completing an honours degree in just one additional year and positioning themselves for chartered professional status through bodies such as the CIOB. AEC Consultant will support your full academic and career journey from day one.

"The UK needs more qualified construction professionals than it is currently producing. An HND in Construction Management puts graduates in exactly the right position at exactly the right time."

Entry Requirements

Pathways to Admission

The HND in Construction Management welcomes applicants from a wide range of backgrounds — whether you are progressing from school or college, returning to education after time working in the trade, or transitioning from another industry sector. Prior construction experience is valued but not essential.

Standard Academic Entry

  • At least one A-Level (or equivalent Level 3 qualification such as a BTEC National in Construction and the Built Environment, T-Level in Design, Surveying and Planning, or an Access to HE Diploma).
  • GCSE English Language and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or above, or Functional Skills Level 2 equivalent. Strong mathematical ability is particularly important for this programme.
  • A Level 3 qualification in a built environment, engineering, or technical subject is an advantage.

Trades & Site Experience Entry

If you have been working on site as a tradesperson, foreman, labourer, or in a construction-related supervisory role, your hands-on knowledge is genuinely valued:

  • Industry Experience: Typically 2+ years working in construction, civil engineering, facilities management, or a closely related trade.
  • Personal Statement: A clear account of your on-site experience, the skills you have developed, and your motivation for moving into management.
  • Admissions Interview: A practical discussion with the university team to assess your technical understanding and management potential.

English Language

  • International applicants will typically require IELTS 5.5 (with no component below 5.5) or an equivalent approved English qualification.
AEC Consultant will assess your full profile — academic, trade experience, and personal background — to identify the most appropriate entry route. All support is free of charge.
Fees & Funding

Funding Your Construction Career

A career in construction management offers strong earning potential — site managers, quantity surveyors, and project managers all command salaries well above the national average. With Student Finance England support, you can access that career path without paying anything upfront for your education.

Tuition Fee Loan

Eligible UK students can borrow up to £9,250 per year to cover their full course fees. The loan is paid directly to your institution, so you begin your HND with no financial stress around tuition costs.

Maintenance Loan

A Maintenance Loan of up to £13,348 per year is available to support your living costs throughout your studies. The amount you receive depends on household income and where you are studying.

Repayment: You only begin repaying once you earn above £25,000 per year, at a rate of 9% of income above that threshold. If your income ever falls below the threshold, repayments pause automatically with no penalty.

AEC Consultant handles your SFE loan application from start to finish, making sure you maximise the funding available to you before your first day on the programme. Our service is 100% free.
